Registration of the area in front of the fence: how to do it correctly?
If you are the happy owner of a personal plot, you should definitely think about the design of the area near the fence. Decoration can be done not only from the inside, but also from the outside – this will complement the pleasant impression guests have of your home.
Options for designing a site in front of a fence: which ones exist and how to choose?
At first glance, it seems that the area in front of the fence should not be planted with plants or decorated with individual compositions, but this is not so. This part of the territory can rarely be used for work or leisure, but it can be used to create a beautiful green corner. The most common design options:
- We emphasize the height. Planting thujas or fir trees along the fence allows you to linearly highlight the size of the fence and visually expand the territory. Often tall plants are interspersed with shorter ones to create a more elegant look.
- We hide the fence with the help of climbing ones. Such a landscape in front of the fence is most often created based on different varieties of roses. It is better to choose plants that bloom in different seasons, then the hedge will delight you with its colors for a long time.
- Playing with shades. For this, low plants are used, more often bushes, which differ a tone or two from the color of the hedge. Or contrasting colors are chosen, which, on the contrary, will emphasize the shade of the hedge and, thereby, attract attention.
If you want to create an exclusive landscape design in front of the fence, you can come up with something of your own, based on proven options.
Choosing plants for the fence
Since there is now a huge selection of different materials for making a fence, it is important to take them into account when creating a future design. This will allow you to select plants that will look harmonious as a whole composition.
Wooden fence
First of all, we pay attention to miniature trees – maple, linden and decorative chestnut, especially if you have a large area. For owners of small plots, fruit trees such as apples or peaches are suitable. Tree growth is a slow process, so it won’t be possible to get a beautiful view in a year. But in five years you will have your own cozy shady corner.
If you need faster landscaping in front of an outdoor fence, choose barberry or viburnum. Ivy, hops and wild grapes will feel comfortable on a wooden fence – over time, you will get a “living” carpet along the fence.
Fans of a more exclusive option can pay attention to wisteria – they also weave, but at the same time they decorate the fence only in the upper half, leaving the opportunity to create a cozy flower bed near the base.
Mesh fence
Planting large plants here would not be the right decision – it would look out of place, so it is better to avoid bushes and trees. Pay attention to small flower arrangements or climbing varieties of plants. For example, you can plant:
- Ivy. Prefers shade, flowers in the form of inflorescences, does not require special care or pruning.
- Kampsis. It has a bright orange tint of inflorescences and tolerates short frosts.
- Clematis. It is better to plant in places where there are no drafts or constant wind.
You can also choose morning glory or Chinese lemongrass – these species are more whimsical, but also have a pleasant appearance. Remember that the main purpose of plants with such a fence is to hide what is happening in the yard. Therefore, choosing low-growing bushes or flowers for planting is not the best option.
Metal fence
The main disadvantage of this type of fence is fast and strong heating. On a hot day, the hot metal will radiate heat into the yard. This must be taken into account when planting plants – they must be heat-loving, otherwise your landscape in front of the fence will quickly become unusable. It is also important not to forget about timely watering. Pay attention to low-growing bushes, herbaceous plants with small inflorescences, for example, purslane.
Sheet or wrought iron fence
This fence has the same problem – the temperature will be higher or lower than outside, depending on the season. Therefore, you need to choose plants that are resistant to its changes. To make the flowerbed in front of the fence look appropriate, give preference to elongated plants – cypress or thuja. And its area can be covered with mulch or small crushed stone, after covering it with agrofibre.
Choosing plants for any occasion
In addition to the options considered, there are a number of plants that will look appropriate near any fence. Neutral options include:
- Flowers. Purslane, phlox, juniper and periwinkle. Easy care is guaranteed.
- Conifers. Cypress, yew, pine or thuja. A pleasant smell will accompany you throughout the entire area.
The main thing is to choose the right combination. You can order an example of the design in front of the fence from a trusted designer, find it on the Internet, or come up with it yourself.
